Our Story

Upako is a business birt of the legacy of Lu's Guest House. In 1993 our grandmother, Geraldine Meyer, was diagnosed with Parkisons disease. She was only 45 years old. Parkinson's disease is a disorder of the central nervous system that affects movement, often including tremors. Nerve cell damage in the brain causes dopamine levels to drop, leading to the symptoms of Parkinson's.

This gut wrenching disease left our very active, hardworking & full of life grandmother in a constant state of discomfort & the inability to perform daily tasks she once could do so effortlessly.

In the beginning stages she was able to perform most tasks, she could move around without any assistance. As children we vividly remember her playing with us, she was more than a grandmother, she was the best kind of friend. AS the disease progressed, she suffered more & more. During the last few years, she was unable to do any task without assistance. she could no longer, walk, lay or eat without assistance.
